Art for Many Cultures
Celebrating Cultures at UW-Madison
Students were the driving force behind the creation of two multicultural murals located in Gekas Commons of Memorial Union. A committee of students spent three years raising funds, securing a location and selecting an artist. Artist Leo Tanguma was selected for his jewel-like tones, artistic philosophy, and creative process. The murals portray historical events and specific individuals from various ethnic groups whose lives served as inspirational models for the UW-Madison students.
